Questions
Straight answers, including the ones where the honest answer is "not on day one".
Quoting and pricing
Not on day one, and it should not pretend to. You start on neutral defaults and enter your own roll prices, machine rates, labour and markup. Then you quote the first jobs yourself while the market model learns from what you charge. Customer-facing instant prices stay off until you turn them on.
The cost formula prices from what a part costs you to make plus your markup. The market model prices from the nearest jobs you actually won. On a customer quote the engine takes the higher of the two, so it can never quote below your cost. More on the pricing engine.
STL, STEP, 3MF and OBJ, measured from the mesh: volume, bounding box, overhangs and the support material a part will need across six orientations. A sliced 3MF with supports already placed is trusted as-is.
Design checks run before the price: thin walls, non-manifold geometry, parts that will not fit your beds, geometry so small it is probably an inch export. Those are flagged for you rather than priced wrongly.
No. Customers see prices. Costs, margins and the pricing pages are staff-only and can be hidden from staff roles too.
Yes. A discount ladder by quantity and a size curve, both yours to set, applied the same way on the customer quote page, the internal calculator and the order.
Customers and branding
Yours. Quote pages, tracking pages, emails and invoices carry your shop name and logo. On the Enterprise plan, your own domain goes on the links and emails as well.
From the email, in one click, on a page on your domain. Approving tells you to start; nothing is charged from that page unless you ask for payment there.
By card from the quote or tracking page, or by e-transfer to the details on your invoice. On Enterprise, business customers can be set up with net terms and purchase order numbers.
A status stepper from received to picked up or shipped, each part's progress from the counts your floor enters, receipts and HST invoices, pickup booking or the tracking number, and a 3D view of each part.
Only transactional messages you trigger, such as a quote or a status change. Every automated follow-up is a draft until you approve it. Email test mode routes everything to your own inbox while you set up.
Production and hardware
No. Layers3D manages the queue, the counts, the labels and the paperwork; your printers print. The people at the machines update piece counts from a phone. Bambu farms can add live status through their own BambuBuddy connection.
Twenty-four profiles: Bambu Lab X1C, X-series, X2D, H2S, H2D, P1S, P-series and A1; Prusa MK4 and XL; Voron 2.4; Creality K1; Elegoo OrangeStorm Giga; Formlabs Form 3, Form 4, Form 4L and Fuse 1; Elegoo Saturn; Anycubic Photon; EOS P-series; and generic FDM, SLA and SLS. A missing profile is a one-line addition.
Anyone on the floor scans it with a phone and sees what is in the box, how many pieces are done and where it goes next. No login is needed to scan, and money is never on that page.
Yes, as separate services you switch on. Repairs get a booking page, ticket numbers and their own board. Design requests get a board from quoting to approval and hand off to a print order when approved.
Data and security
No. Every record is scoped to your shop, cross-shop access returns nothing, and that is enforced by automated tests. A new shop starts on neutral pricing, never on anyone else's. More on security.
Yes, one click, any time: customers and orders as CSV, files per order or from the file manager. If you cancel, your data is kept for ninety days for export, then deleted.
Nobody, without a support grant you give. Support access runs on a token that expires in thirty minutes, shows a banner while active, and appears in your audit log.
Yes, with an authenticator app or an emailed code, plus a verification code for sign-ins from a new device.
Founding Shops and billing
Not on your own yet. Accounts are open to shops we approve. Apply to be a Founding Shop with a couple of minutes of questions about your shop. We read every application ourselves, and if it is a fit you get an email with a link to set up your shop.
The first shops on Layers3D get Professional for CA$119.20 a month, 20% off for their first year. There is no setup fee. See pricing for the details.
Everything in the plan you pick, with no card required to start. Nothing you set up is lost when the trial ends; you add a card and continue, or the account pauses with your data kept and exportable.
Your pick of Canadian, US or Australian dollars, euros or pounds, through Stripe. Each has its own round price, so what you see is what your card is charged. Yearly billing is ten months for twelve.
A priced quote sent to a customer, from the widget, an email-in request or one you entered yourself. Drafts you never send do not count.
Plans go by how many printers you run: Starter 1 to 3, Professional 4 to 15, Enterprise 16 or more. They also differ by orders per month (Starter 30, the others unlimited), users and features. Starter has one user, Professional three (each extra one is $15 a month), Enterprise unlimited.
Yes, from a spreadsheet, or let the first quote requests build the list. Duplicate detection helps when the same person arrives twice.
Apply to be a Founding Shop and ask from inside the software, or read how the shop it was built in uses it.
