Features / Design work

From a customer's sketch to an approved model to a print order.

Half of the people who need a part do not have a file. Layers3D lets them ask for a design on your quote page, runs the design work on its own board, sends each revision to the customer for approval, and hands the approved model straight to production as a print order that carries the whole history.

The design board

Quoting, in design, with the customer, changes, approved.

A design request starts as a quote you price deliberately, because design time is your time. Once won, it moves across the board as you work: on the bench, out with the customer for approval, back with their notes, approved. The last column hands off to a print order, so the model never has to be re-uploaded and the customer never has to re-explain.

  • Design requests arrive from the quote page's "I need a design" option, or from your inbox
  • A request that arrives without a file goes to the design board instead of stalling the print queue
  • Revisions go out from the order; the customer approves or requests changes on their own page
  • Approval hands off to a print order with the file, the customer and the notes attached

On the quote page

Three doors: I have a file, I need a design, my printer needs a repair.

The first screen of your quote page asks which of the three the customer needs, and only shows the services you have switched on. Someone with a napkin drawing picks the second door, describes the part, attaches reference photos, and lands on your design board as a lead, not as a broken print order with no file.

  • Design requests captured with the brief, reference images and the use case
  • Priced by you, with CAD clean-up billed hourly from your cost settings
  • Design follow-ups run through the same approval-first queue as quotes

Multi-week jobs

Projects hold the orders that belong together.

A design job, the prototype run, and the production order three weeks later are one piece of work to the customer. A project groups them with a code, a target date and a shared timeline, and the hours logged against any of its orders roll up to the project.
