Features / Claude and ChatGPT

Ask your assistant about your shop.

Connect Layers3D to your own Claude or ChatGPT and ask in plain words: what needs you today, who owes you money, what a batch of parts would cost. It signs in as you, sees only what you can see, and asks before it changes anything.

Connect it

One address, then sign in.

The connector address is https://api.layers3d.ca/mcp. It runs on your own assistant plan: Layers3D holds no AI key for it and charges nothing extra.

Claude

Settings › Connectors

Choose Add custom connector, name it Layers3D and paste the address. Press Connect, sign in to Layers3D if asked, pick whether it may make changes, and Allow. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds it for the organisation first.

ChatGPT

Settings › Apps

Add Layers3D from the app directory, or while it is not listed there, create a custom app with the address above (developer mode). Sign in to Layers3D and Allow when ChatGPT sends you there.

Other assistants

Any MCP client

Cursor, Claude Code and other tools that speak MCP over Streamable HTTP with OAuth sign-in connect the same way: give them the address and they open the Layers3D sign-in page.

Use the address exactly as written. layers3d.ca/mcp, without api., is the website and will not connect.

What to ask

Things shops ask it.

What it can do

Fourteen things, and nothing your role can't.

Reads

Look things up

A shop overview (orders by stage, money owed, quotes gone quiet), finding orders and customers, one order in full, an order's costs and margin, a sales summary for any dates, your pricing setup, and a price for parts from your own quote engine without saving anything.

Changes

Only when you allow it

Create a quote request, move an order to another stage, add a staff note, set a due date, and put an order on hold or release it. Tick “Let it make changes” when you connect, or leave it read-only.

Never

What it cannot do

Delete orders, see passwords, change prices or settings, take or refund payments, attach files, or do anything your own role in Layers3D is not allowed to do.

Safeguards

It works as you, and it asks first.

  • Each connection is one person in one shop. Your role's permissions, your plan and every order rule apply exactly as they do in the admin, because it goes through the same code.
  • Claude and ChatGPT ask you before every change. Nothing that could email a customer runs until you have said whether to send it.
  • Every change it makes is in your audit log, with the assistant's name and yours.
  • Disconnect it any time in Apps › Claude & ChatGPT. Deactivating the person, changing their password or signing them out everywhere ends it too.
  • Support logins cannot connect an assistant.

Your data

Where your data goes.

When you ask something, Layers3D sends your assistant the answer to that question and nothing more: for example an order's parts, total and status, a customer's name and email, or a sales figure. The assistant's provider (Anthropic for Claude, OpenAI for ChatGPT) handles that conversation under your own account and its terms, not ours.

Layers3D does not see or keep your conversations. It keeps the connection itself (who connected, which app, when it was last used), a record of each change, and sign-in tokens stored only as one-way hashes. Access tokens last an hour; the connection renews itself for up to 90 days of disuse. Disconnecting cancels its tokens at once. More in our privacy policy.

If it doesn't work

Common snags.

“Sign in to Layers3D first”

The Allow page uses your Layers3D sign-in in the same browser. Press Sign in, and you come straight back to finish.

“This connection is read-only”

It was connected without “Let it make changes”. Disconnect it in Apps › Claude & ChatGPT and connect again with the box ticked.

Changes are refused

The answer says why, in the same words the admin would: a missing price, a role that can't, or a shop whose plan is read-only.
